What is our home repairs process?

No matter how big or small, you deserve three things in your home repair: excellent work, an excellent experience, done by people you can trust. We design each step in our home repair process to cultivate trust, build confidence, and ultimately redeem the typical home repair experience.

  • We understand that getting in touch with a contractor is almost impossible for most people. Maybe they don't have a website. Maybe they never pick up the phone. Maybe they don't have time to talk when they pick up the phone. And this is before we've even started on an estimate.

We've created a simple online form that, in 2-3 minutes, allows you to pass along all the information we need to get your quote started. Prefer the phone? Our team will walk you through the same process.

Once we've gathered all the necessary information, we'll start a dedicated project page in our software (Service Fusion). This ensures that all the information is documented from the first interaction, eliminating any "well, I thought we talked about this..." confusion regarding the formal estimate.

After reviewing the requested work, we'll then discuss it with our team to identify what, if any, aspects of the job need to be inspected before we put together an estimate and by whom.

  • A site consultation with one or multiple team members will be necessary for most projects. Full transparency: we have a travel fee for this part of the quoting process (credited back if you accept the project). This is a great thing. Why? Accountability. If a contractor tells you they'll show up to quote a job but don't, what can you do? Ultimately, you haven't paid for anything. Thus, you have no recourse. You get two things when you pay for a site consultation with us. First, you get a guaranteed time when you know we'll show up. Secondly, you gain the value of an expert reviewing your problem and ensuring we have the best (and most cost-effective) solution to your problem. Otherwise, it might be someone showing up and quoting the work you request without thoroughly exploring what needs to be done.

In estimating a home repair, we understand that the most important thing is that you receive a clear estimate promptly. After gathering all the necessary information and clarifying the work you'd like to have estimated, we can typically turn our estimates around in 2-3 days. How can we turn around such a detailed quote so quickly? Three reasons:

Typically, a home repair is an urgent or semi-urgent need. We empathize with the desire to get it done as quickly as possible.

As stated before, we manage all the work, even if it crosses multiple trades. There is no need to get numerous estimates for different parts of the repair.

We work hard to create enjoyable and respectful working relationships with our subcontractors, so when we need to have an aspect of your estimate advised on by a subcontractor, they are available and ready to serve.

Our quotes are always delivered in a highly detailed, line item-by-line-item estimate via our project management app, Service Fusion. With this estimate, you have immediate clarity on cost, scope, and items included (and, just as notably, excluded). We aim to deliver an estimate that provides clarity and confidence, not confusion.

We also understand that you may want to remove or adjust parts of the estimate once it's received. Rather than have a "take it or leave it" attitude, we welcome revisions and are willing to remove and alter the scope of the repairs based on budget.

  • Once an estimate is accepted, we understand the next question is, "When can you start?" We have an entire repairs team dedicated to scheduling, ordering, and communication to ensure you know exactly when you will start.

Scheduling: in the quoting process, we review your scope of work and outline all the materials needed. Once we have clarity, we'll tell you a schedule, a potential start date, and a schedule (if it will take multiple days).

Ordering: While most materials are readily available, some need to be ordered custom (a window, flooring, a door, etc.). Once a quote is signed, we immediately confirm any design details and order the materials, facilitating a minimum wait time before a project starts.

Communication: By utilizing Service Fusion, our administrative and service teams can communicate directly to you. As the time approaches for your repairs, we'll ensure you know everything you need to do to prepare for us to get started.

  • We feel strongly at Owners Choice that just doing the work well isn't enough. Excellent work has to be complemented by an excellent experience done by excellent people.

We invest in each aspect of this process. This becomes especially beneficial when you have a project with multiple trades and can last for multiple weeks. For example, suppose you need new countertops for your kitchen. In that case, typically, you'll have to coordinate a separate countertop provider, then a plumber (to unhook and reinstall fixtures), and then potentially someone to touch up the paint. What about the backsplash? Now you need a tile person. Are you adding a couple of outlets? Electrician. Each of those trades can ultimately lead to something that could take days if appropriately managed, taking weeks or even months. When you work with us, you don't just get people showing up and asking, "What am I doing again?" you gain expertise, management, and quality control.

Once we've completed all the work, our supervisor will then schedule a final walkthrough to ensure that every aspect of the work is according to our standards. Even if everything looks good to you, if our expert deems it not up to our standard, we'll make it right.

  • Throughout the process, we seek to cultivate trust. One huge aspect of this is how we structure our payment plan. We request half of the job cost upon acceptance of the quote, but the final half is not due until both you and we are happy with the work and that it's truly complete.

Moreover, we stand by all our work and warranty it. We will even reach a month after we've wrapped up to ensure everything is in good working order. We aim to develop life-long relationships with our clients who only call us when they need work done on their home, and to do this; you need the confidence that we stand by our work and that it will last.

In summary, we want to provide a transformative home repair experience for every client, for projects big or small.

    Let's get to work.
